Project Description
Three Wonders: Prison Island, Snorkeling in Bawe and Sandbank
There are several small islands and sandbanks just a few kilometers away by traditional dhow boat from the shores of Stone Town, perfect destinations for swimming in the blue Indian Ocean. Have our captain come and collect you from the Mangrove beach for an easy day exploring the turquoise universe that surrounds the islands.
Take a half day trip to Prison Island, once a place for prisoners and the ills. Now it’s home to a giant tortoise sanctuary. Get up close and personal with the tortoises and marvel at their weight and size. The largest being 200kgs and the oldest is said to be about 190 years. Head to the inhabited Bawe Island for snorkelling and the Mbarouk sandbar to sunbathe, enjoy the pristine waters and have a picnic on the soft, white talc like sand.
If you still have some time, a walk in town is perfect to end the day.
